WAXAHACHIE — An Ellis County jury sentenced 25-year-old Dylyn Reed Richards of Venus to 55 years in prison on Friday, a day after convicting him of intoxication manslaughter resulting in the death of a police officer.

Richards was found guilty of causing the death of Waxahachie Police Officer Joshua Williams. Williams responded to a disturbance at the Taco Bell drive-through lane shortly before midnight, July 28, 2012. As he turned into a nearby parking lot, Richards crashed his 1994 Chevrolet Suburban into Williams’ patrol car, killing him.
