EHS to issue Chromebooks to new freshmen

Ennis ISD is taking one of its most popular technology initiatives in a new direction.

Incoming Ennis High School freshman will be issued Chromebooks at the start of the school year this fall, months after handing in their iPads for the year.

Art Del Barrio, Ennis ISD Director of Communication, said Wednesday that iPads will still be used at the junior high level, but will be replaced by Chromebooks in ninth grade and higher.

“We can get two Chromebooks for the price of one iPad, which is a huge savings for the district,” EISD Superintendent John Chapman said.

The Chromebook initiative represents a change in plans for the district, which according to a statement issued in November 2012 by former Director of Communication Henry Martinez had planned to continue providing iPads for incoming EJHS students so the students would keep them throughout high school.
