Fire Marshal Gary Howell said children playing with matches likely caused a fire that damaged a home in the 700 block of South Carlton Street on Friday.

Ennis firefighters arrived shortly before 3 p.m. as smoke billowed from an exterior closet at the rear of the building. It took firefighters almost an hour after arriving to completely extinguish the lingering fire.
