Group proposes $1.7M project

A group of residents lobbied the Ennis Economic Development Corporation last week to put up to $1.7 million in tax dollars behind establishing a facility in downtown centered around arts and culture.
Representatives from the Ennis Public Theatre board of directors, Greater Ennis Development Authority and property owners in downtown made the case that Ennis needs such a downtown draw in order to spur redevelopment, and that the city should be behind funding the project. Specifically, they point to the property at 213 W. Ennis Ave., the former Texas Lifestyle Furniture building, as a prime location.
