Helping Hands sees big donation surge

Ennis citizens and businesses are increasing their donations to Helping Hands of Ennis, at a time when Executive Director Judi Hejny said the food bank needs them the most.

Hejny said demand increases only slightly during the holidays most years, but thanks to recent cuts to food stamp programs and continued economic woes she expects more this year.

However, Hejny said the community stepped up in a big way.
