Ennis was largely spared the icy road conditions that plagued areas north in the DFW Metroplex on Friday, but power outage problems were still persistent in areas around town as the weekend settled in and the freeze hardened.

The power troubles were largely a product of ice accumulation on power lines and trees that had no chance to melt off throughout the day Friday and into the weekend. More than 1,200 homes were without power in Ennis through most of Friday afternoon, with a large circuit restored in the early evening hours that brought lights back on in many areas.
