Jail plan dead in the water

After Sheriff Johnny Brown told the Ellis County Commissioners Court he would not approve privatizing Wayne McCollum Detention Center, commissioners opted to skip taking action on the issue.

Brown said he would approve of private management of Immigrations and Customs Enforcement detainees, but he that he would not support any motion for that management to oversee the entire jail’s operation. That issue has developed over the last several months as commissioners investigated privatization.
