The county’s unemployment rate has risen slightly as more are reporting being out of work in May.
Unadjusted statistics from the Texas Workforce Commission show the rate of unemployment in Ellis County rising from 6.4 percent in April to 6.7 percent in May. During the prior month, 4,796 filed as jobless, and May saw 4,982 file with the state as unemployed. Both the county’s total workforce and its employed resident figures saw slight bumps in May.
