Joblessness up in January

Ellis County’s unemployment rate spiked as the year began, with fewer reporting employment and the labor force growing slightly.

January saw unemployment in Ellis County grow to 7 percent from 6.3 percent in December. The workforce grew from 75,834 to 75,975, with 70,624 of those workers reporting employment. More than 71,100 were employed in December, according to figures from the Texas Workforce Commission not adjusted for seasonal trends.
