Killer sentenced to 34 years

Staff reports, [email protected]

Jose Manuel Alvarado, one of two people connected to the March 2012 murder of 15-year-old Moriah Gonzales, pleaded guilty Thursday and received a 34-year prison sentence.

The second suspect in the killing, Jennifer Puente, remains at large.

Assistant District Attorney Ann Montgomery said Alvarado accepted the sentence as part of a plea agreement. He was also sentenced to 20 years in prison for tampering with evidence.

Residents in the Knighthurst area of southeast Ennis found Gonzales’ burned body in the early morning hours of March 17, 2012. Gonzales was identified the next day, as were the suspects Alvarado and Puente.
