Good Friday proved to be a very good Friday for the Ennis Lions. While most other schools in the district played their baseball games on Thursday, the Lions (15-11, 7-5) and Lancaster Tigers (0-12) went head to head on Friday with the Lions blanking the Tigers 11-0 in five innings.
“We did what we needed to do. We came out and swung the bats pretty well,” Lion shortstop Ian Graham said. “For the most part we did our job.”
The Lion offense may have started Friday’s game slowly with one run scored in the first inning and two runs scored in the fourth inning, but the squad exploded during the fifth inning with eight runs scored to shut the game down early.
“We kind of struggled at first with the bats. Our defense was good,” Lion starting pitcher Mason Hopkins said. “At the end we broke it open with a couple hard hits and pulled out the win.”
