Nursing scholarships to be awarded

Phil Banker[email protected]

Interest in the Patsy Blazek Nursing Scholarship almost tripled from last year’s numbers, according to the scholarship’s founder Jimmy Blazek.

Blazek, the husband of former Ennis ISD school nurse Patsy Blazek, said the foundation created in his wife’s name received 23 applications this year; a marked increase in last year’s total of 9 applications.

“I would say interest has piqued,” Blazek said. “It’s going to be tough to narrow them down. We’re about three-fourths of the way through right now.”

Winners will receive their scholarships and be recognized at a dinner and reception planned for May 5 at the Ennis State Bank Event Center.
