Official confirmation from the National Weather Service classified the tornado that struck Ennis overnight as an EF-1, City Manager Steve Howerton said in a release this evening.

An EF-1 classification on the Enhanced Fujita scale is assigned to tornadoes with sustained winds in the 86-110 mph range.

Reports detail dozens of damaged homes and businesses, but only one reported injury. That injured person was treated and released from Ennis Regional Medical Center this morning.

By comparison, reports about the tornado that devastated the city of Granbury late Wednesday was classified by NWS as an EF-4, with winds of 166-200 mph.
