Recycling program on the upswing

The city’s recycling program, which has grown steadily since its inception in 2005, is being considered for possible expansion.
City commissioners mulled reports from City Manager Steve Howerton last week that detailed more than 500 percent growth in collections since its first year. Last year, registered households jumped to more than 900 citywide, but regular participation held somewhat steady around 400 of those, about 8.5 percent of the city’s households.
