Photo of Wayne M. GaddisWayne M. Gaddis, Sr., 82, passed away Saturday, March 20, 2010 at Baylor Medical Center of Dallas.
Wayne was born on Nov. 6, 1927 to Votto and Alma (Prothro) Gaddis in Hallsville, Texas. He grew up in Hallsville and graduated from Hallsville High School. On April 17, 1948 he married Bertha Carter and they made their home in Dallas. They also lived in Fruitdale for a time before moving to Bristol in 1964. He served his country proudly in the United States Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theatre as a Seabee.
He was a Manager for over 36 years with Southwestern Bell and was Superintendent of the Eastern Star Home. He was a member of the Bristol Baptist Church where he served as Deacon. He was also a member of Ferris Masonic Lodge, VFW Post of Ennis, Eastern Star of Ferris, Scottish Rite 32nd degree and York Rite of Dallas. He loved to go to the Texas Rangers baseball games.
He is survived by three sons: Wayne M. Gaddis, Jr., and his wife, Leta, of Mesquite, Richard Otis Gaddis, and his wife, Nora, of Arlington and Carter Gaddis, of Dallas; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three brothers: Prothro Gaddis, of Dallas, Votto Gaddis and Connie Gaddis of Longview and one sister, Millie Lynn, of Houston; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Bertha, on October 27, 2007.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 23, 2010 from 6 until 8 p.m. at J.E. Keever Mortuary. Services will be Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at 2 p.m. at J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel with Rev. David Futral, pastor of the Bristol Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Bristol Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
The family requests and would appreciate donations in Wayne’s memory to the American Veterans Traveling Tribute. An account is set up at Ennis State Bank. Donation envelopes will also be available at the funeral home.
