Gary Dean Gibson (04-27-2010)
Ennis, Texas – Gary Dean Gibson, 59, died at his home on Thursday, April 15, 2010.
He is the son of Madgeline V. (Nichols) Gibson and the late Verne L. Gibson, Rapid City, SD.
Additional survivors include his three sisters, Alverna Gibson, Black Hawk, SD; Marlena (Thomas) Parr, Geneva, IL; Patricia (Steve) Griffin, Rapid City; a brother, Mark Gibson, Rapid City; a niece, Paula (Matt) Mitchell and their daughter Autumn, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and several aunts, uncles and cousins in Ennis and Corsicana, Texas.
Gibson served his country as a Fireman in the US Navy aboard the USS Von Steuben submarine from January 28, 1971 to December 4, 1974.
He was married to Debra Morton from August ?? 19?? until November 2004 and was stepfather to her 2 sons, Kyle and Trae Morton.
He was a member for many years at the Assembly of God Church in Ennis, Texas where he served as the Outpost Commander of the Royal Rangers, a boys youth group; drove the church van to pick up seniors and children each Sunday for services; and helped maintain the church property through his skills as a carpenter and painter.
He had a wonderful sense of humor, a great love of the outdoors, especially the Black Hills, and was a man of strong faith in the Lord and loved to share it with those he met.
Visitation will be from 4 until 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 27, at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home. Memorial Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 28, at Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. Dwight Stensgaard officiating. Burial with military honors, will follow in Black Hills National Cemetery.
