Oran L. Anthony (05-07-2010)
Oran L. Anthony, 96, long time resident of the IOOF Retirement Center left this world for his new home in Heaven on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 from the Ennis Regional Medical Center.
Oran was born on Oct. 20, 1913 in Byrd, Texas to Vilas L. and Leona (Johnson) Anthony. Oran attended and graduated from Richardson High School in 1933. He lived in Peeltown for part of his life but mainly lived in Byrd and Ennis. Oran served the United States Army proudly in the European Theatre of World War II at the Battle of the Buldge.
Oran worked at several different occupations including Youngblood's Restaurant, Ray Tosch Service Station, The U.S. Post Office and Sears & Roebuck Company. Oran also worked most of his life on the farm in Byrd. He attended the Methodist Church and was a member of the VFW.
He is survived by two brothers: Rev. Irvan Anthony and his wife, Ruth, and Dan Anthony and his wife, Margaret, and one sister, Bess Johnson, all of Ennis; six nephews and five nieces, along with numerous great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Everett and Rupert Earl Anthony.
Visitation will be Friday, May 7, 2010 from 6 until 8 p.m. at J.E. Keever Mortuary. Services will be on Saturday, May 8, 2010 at 10 a.m. with Dr. Coy Quesenbury and Dr. George Rogers officiating. Pall bearers will be Dale Steelman, Ben Anthony, Joe Anthony, Billy Anthony, Les Gerron and Jarod Hamm Interment will follow at Elm Branch Cemetery in Bardwell under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
