Walter Dan Stephen Alexander (07-06-2010)
Walter Dan Stephen Alexander, 86, was born January 14, 1924 in Flynn, Leon County, Texas.
He was the 5th of 8 children born to Burley Robert Alexander and Luverta T. Perry Alexander. He entered into rest on Friday, July 2, 2010. He entered WW II after graduating from high school.
He was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Infantry upon graduation from Prairie View. He entered again into the Army and served in the Korean War for three years. After being honorably discharged from the Korean War he remained in the Army Reserves until he reached the rank of Colonel.
Walter served several years as teacher/principal in Kemp, Texas before being hired by Ennis ISD as principal of the African American schools. Following integration he served the district as an administrative assistant before being assigned principal of WM B. Travis Elementary until his retirement in 1984. Walter was a faithful member and Deacon of the Fourth Ward Missionary Baptist Church in Ennis.
Left to cherish and treasure precious memories of Walter are his beloved wife of 59 years, Lillian Alexander; daughter, Amie Lorraine Cherry (Vladimir) of Plano, TX; son, Stephen Robert Alexander, Sr. (Marie) of Ennis, TX; six grandchildren, Amber Alexander and Zachary Alexander of East Hartford, CT, India Stiff, Jordan Stiff, Gabrielle Owens of Plano, TX and Stephen Alexander, Jr. of Ennis, TX; great-grandchild, Tyrell Young, Jr. of East Hartford, CT; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Wake- Tuesday, July 6 from 6-8 p.m. at Fourth Ward B.C.- 1300 Shawnee, Ennis, TX. Funeral- Wednesday, July 7 at 10:30 a.m. at Baylor B.C.- 210 N. Preston St., Ennis, TX.
