Dorothy Mahoney-Harkins

Dorothy Mahoney-Harkins, 78, passed away at Legend Oaks Nursing Home in Ennis on December 29, 2013. She was born on May 30, 1935 to Juanita and E.M. (Slim) Terrell, in Alice, Texas. She is survived by her husband of twenty-one years, John W. Harkins, Jr.; daughter, Debbie Jameson; sons: Ron Mahoney and his wife, Tina, and Ken Mahoney; half-brother, Dennis Terrell and his wife, Pam; half-sisters: Cecelia “Sweetie” Fuller and Sharon Spencer as well as numerous brothers and sisters-in-laws, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and loved ones. She is preceded in death by her parents, and infant sister, Geraldine Terrell and her first husband of over twenty-five years, Douglas Mahoney. Dorothy enjoyed a successful career for over thirty-five years as a nursing home administrator. She entered the business to make a positive difference in seniors lives, due to issues she experienced when her own mother became ill and needed nursing home care. Under her leadership at facilities in Mexia, Greenville, Ennis, Paris and Carthage, she had an acclaimed reputation for very low to no deficiencies with the State. She retired in October of 2002 to Ennis where she and her husband have enjoyed living and owning their home for a number of years. She will be greatly missed by those who knew her. Graveside services will be held on January 3, 2014 at 2 p.m. in the Waco Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Cord Blankenship officiating under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc. www.jekeevermortuary.com
