Eleanor Hines Brewster


Eleanor Hines Brewster passed away in Dallas on Sunday, November 11, 2012, following a brief illness. She was born on November 14, 1919 in Gadsden, Alabama to Emma and John Hines. She grew up in Birmingham, Alabama where she graduated from high school and attended Business College. After marrying McCluer “Pete” Brewster in October of 1947, the couple moved to Chatham, Virginia, where Pete was employed with Ennis Business Forms. In the summer of 1969, the Brewsters moved with their daughter, Katie, to Ennis. Eleanor was known for her wide circle of friends and her involvement in many civic and charitable causes. Prior to their move to Texas, she and Pete were honored as Outstanding Citizens of Pennsylvania County in Virginia. A faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Ennis, she most recently served on the Pastor Parish Relations Committee, and was a longtime member of the Epworth Sunday School Class. She was also known for her work with the Ennis Garden Club, Twentieth Century Club, Ennis Heritage Society, Delphi Club, Boys and Girls Club of Ennis, United Way of Ennis, and Helping Hands of Ennis. Her many interests and activities included spending time with family and friends, cooking, entertaining, reading, writing, perfecting her skill at crossword puzzles and bridge, her home, her God, laughing and loving. Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Katie Brewster Neuroth, and her husband Robert, and grandsons Mac, Josh, Billy, and Bobby Neuroth, nieces Jan Pitts Mathews of Nashville, TN, Teresa Hines of Birmingam, AL, nephews Robert Pitts of Knoxville, TN, and Jerry Brewster of Alpine, TX, as well as her grand-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete, her parents, two sisters and two brothers. A celebration of Eleanor’s life will be held on Friday, November 16, 2012 at 10:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church of Ennis.
