Sister Sylvan Durbin
Sister Sylvan Durbin, age 87, a Sister of Divine Providence, entered eternal life on December 11, 2012. She was one of eight children born to Augustine and Mary Naomi Lindle Durbin. Sister Sylvan was born November 6, 1925, in Ennis, Texas. She answered God’s call to become a Sister of Divine Providence and at age 22 she made her first profession of vows. Sister Sylvan began her ministerial life at St. Joseph Hall in San Antonio, Texas in 1947. She devoted her years of ministry to nursing and provided nursing care at many hospitals throughout Texas. She touched many lives through her beautiful bed side manner, love, and compassion for her patients. She is survived by her sister, Anna Galetka, sister-in-law, Anna Jo Durbin, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Augustine and Mary Naomi Lindle Durbin, her brothers James Augustine Durbin, Mark Anthony Durbin, and infant Joseph Eugene Durbin; her sisters, Elizabeth Holland, ClaraRita Peveto, and infant Anna Ruth Durbin. The Rosary is Friday, December 14, 2012 at 4:30 p.m. and the Wake is at 6:30 p.m. A Mass of Resurrection will be held Saturday, December 15, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. All services will be in Annunciation Chapel at Our Lady of the Lake Convent Center.
