Dallas man faces federal count for pointing laser

DALLAS (AP) — A man accused of pointing a green laser beam at a police helicopter flying during an investigation was scheduled to appear in federal court in Dallas on Tuesday.

Kenneth Santodomingo was charged by police who said he pointed the beam at the aircraft from his home Monday. But he now is facing a federal count of aiming a laser pointer at an aircraft. The penalty for the offense is five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Authorities say the 22-year-old Santodomingo pointed the laser several times at the helicopter as it assisted officers looking for a suspect in a burglary. The pilot found where the light was coming from and directed officers on the ground to the location.

Santodomingo did not have an attorney listed in online jail records.
