Man, 85, rescued from car stuck near Texas ravine

KERRVILLE, Texas (AP) — An 85-year-old Central Texas man trapped in his car for two days says he wrote his will on the console so people wouldn’t think he was trying to commit suicide.

Robert Porter of Kerrville was treated for minor injuries Tuesday afternoon when he was rescued from his vehicle stuck near a ravine.

The Kerrville Daily Times  reports Porter wrote “this was an accident.”

Department of Public Safety Trooper James Salaz says Porter was last seen driving near the ravine Sunday evening.

Officials believe Porter, who lives alone, drove down an incline to the pond, but the vehicle couldn’t get enough traction to drive out. The car became wedged against a tree. Porter, who had no water with him, honked the horn until the battery died.

A neighbor discovered Porter.
