Madge always wanted to travel, so when Verne was offered the opportunity to become a quality control inspector for the federal missile program, she encouraged him to join. They took their family on temporary assignments to Colorado, Idaho, Nebraska, Montana, and Washington State all the while maintaining their permanent home in Cleghorn Canyon. During their retirement years, they spent half of the year in Rapid City and the other half in Ennis. Madge was a member of the senior citizens centers in Ennis and Rapid City.
