Ennis and the Columbia disaster

Not all the history here on the Memories page is ancient. Sometimes, we revisit a story that happened a few years ago. Such is the
case with today’s spotlight. A reader mentioned to me not long ago about how sad it was that Ennis figured in the 2003 Space Shuttle Columbia disaster. On reentry to Earth’s atmosphere on Feb. 1, the shuttle disintegrated over Dallas and north central and east Texas, killing all seven crew members aboard: Commander Rick Husband, Pilot William McCool, Payload Commander Michael Anderson, Payload Specialist Ilan Ramon and Mission Specialists Laurel Clark, David Brown and Kalpana Chawla.
