Ennis’s Bob Banner: A showman remembered

Bob Banner made one of his last public appearances in 2010. He’s seen here with two of his sons, and singer Dionne Warwick. NOTE: I received several emails, including one from a new resident of Ennis, asking about TV producer Bob Banner and his Ennis roots. I’m happy to share this updated, exclusive story on Bob with readers of the Ennis News’ “Memories” page. Even if Bob Banner, pioneering television producer and director, hadn’t made it to the big time, his hometown of Ennis would still remember him for helping write Ennis High’s song “Maroon and White.” That happened in 1937 when 16 year old Banner was asked by EHS music director Thomas B. Granger to work with him on the song. The result — Granger’s composition and Banner’s arrangement — has instilled pride in thousands of graduates ever since.Randy Bryan Bigham randybigham@yahoo.com Read stories like this and more in your latest edition of The Ennis News.
