Medal of Honor conferred on Lummus

In 1946, a year after Lieut. Jack Lummus was killed in the Battle of Iwo Jima, his mother received the Medal of Honor bestowed on her
son, the former New York Giants star. Lummus died while leading a rifle platoon. He was twice wounded by grenades “but kept going until a land mine explosion proved fatal,” according to the Corsicana Daily Sun of May 27.
