Polka Parade set for May 25 Consul to Czech Republic, Vanicek, is grand marshal

Perennial winner in the Polka Parade is the Firehouse Grill. The popular downtown restaurant won in 2018. The photo above was their winning entry of 2014. Like clockwork the annual Polka Festival and its Saturday morning parade have churned out great music and winning floats along the Avenue. While the Polka Festival is slated for Memorial Weekend, May 24-26, the parade will take over downtown at 10 a.m Saturday. Spectators will lineup early for best vantage points, most of them between N.W. Main Street and Preston Street, though crowds along W. Ennis Avenue have swollen in some years to Gaines or Clay Streets.
Attendance for the weekend crests around 40,000 and good weather could do wonders for the halls and downtown entertainment.
