The Bluebonnet Limited

An early and fairly forgotten railroad service that went through Ennis back in the 1920s and ‘30s was called The Bluebonnet Limited. I have found a number of old advertisements for this line owned by the Texas Electric Railway. It was on the Waco-Dallas-Sherman-Denison route and operated from 1928 to about 1932. Newspaper ads read: “Relax in solid comfort and let the ‘Bluebonnet’ whisk you to your destination.” Service began in late February 1928, according to an article about the new line in the March 3, 1928 issue of the Corsicana Daily News. A special inaugural trip was made from Dallas through Ennis to Corsicana. At Ennis there was a ribbon cutting ceremony at the depot, attended by city officials from Ennis and Corsicana. The Ennis Daily News sent a reporter, a Miss Cora F. Winter, to cover the event and provide a review of the service. Read this story and more in your Weekend edition of The Ennis News.
