In a meeting that begged for a closing amen, four Ellis County Commissioners debated the decision to Shelter-In-Place until a split-decision vote required County Judge Todd Little determine the direction for nearly 180,000 residents.

Staying at home for a few weeks, except for minimally imperative trips to the grocer, drive-throughs, pharmacist or doctor, is meant to lessen interaction with others. That mandate can feel oppressive to some or a piece of cake to others.

Mayor Angie posts message on Facebook

Mayor Angie Juenemann took to Facebook on Thursday in a five-minute video message to area residents about the City of Ennis declaring an emergency order, “Stay Safe - Stay Home,” which went into operation at midnight on March 26. It will remain in full force until 11:59 p.m. on April 17.

Similar to the mandate Ellis County recently passed, whose order expires on April 3, the Ennis command is in effect until Friday, April 17. It coincides with the just announced order by the Ennis Independent School District

‘Texas Highways’ spotlighted Ennis in 2019

The Bluebonnet Trails Festival has been canceled this year for the first time since 1958; ditto the Polka Festival for the first time in its 53-year history. But 2019 was a banner year insofar as media attention for Ennis and the state flower that has given the city is national identity. In addition to being featured in a popular TV series (see accompanying article) the Bluebonnet City received a nod from Texas Highways magazine which also featured on its webpage an article referencing the event.

A 2019 episode of the AMC reality adventure series Ride with Norman Reedus showed the motorcycling actor-host and a guest traveling through Ennis looking at the bluebonnets.

The episode “Lone Star State with Sean Patrick Flannery,” was number 17 of the third season. It aired March 11 last year on the AMC channel.

“That day” is usually long time coming for most of us. The transformation and the process of it has been an invitation of all great religions. Union is the core message of all healthy religion.

Longing for God and longing for our True Self are the same longing. Religion has only one absolute job description: to make one out of two and one out of many.

The global travel industry has been in turmoil since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus COVID-19 in December 2019. Many would-be travelers, including business travelers and vacationers, canceled previously planned trips or delayed future travel plans in the hopes of reducing their risk of catching a virus that CNN estimated had claimed more than 4,000 lives across the globe between December 2019 and mid-March 2020. According to estimates from the Global Business Travel Association, business travel revenue loss totaled $820 billion across the globe through the first week of March 2020.

County Clerks office restricts in-person access

Due to public health concerns with COVID-19, beginning Wednesday, March 18, 2020, the County Clerk’s Office will be limiting any in-person transactions to appointments only for essential needs. This is a precautionary measure to ensure everyone’s safety.
