Familiar sport sparks memories

After 11 years away, it was time to stoke my love of a sport that inspired me throughout high school. Opportunity was a mere 30 miles away as the United States Fencing Association’s annual Junior Olympics were in Dallas last weekend.

I hadn’t seen the coach from my old high school in probably eight years. He wasn’t even far into his job coaching when I last saw him.

He was more a peer for me during my years in school and on the trips the 30-plus member team took annually to the Junior Olympics.

He posted a note on Facebook inviting former team members to come visit, and I answered. I felt like it would be a good use of my time.
