Ennis Ford Perfect Drive

It’s all in the great spirit of giving

Every year on the Thursday before Christmas the Ennis Kiwanis Club gathers to perform its most basic of functions as a service club in the community.
The group, along with Super 1 Foods, executes the Spirit of Christmas Food Drive for the residents of the Senior Citizens Apartments in Ennis. Each resident of the complex is given a box full of canned goods collected by Sam Houston Elementary students and a frozen hen for the holiday.
This simple act of holiday kindness, while only taking a couple of hours out of the Kiwanis members’ days, gives the Senior Citizens Apartments residents endless amounts of gratitude and joy. The profound effect of this gesture can be seen in the residents’ reactions as the group is delivering the gift boxes.
Super 1 Foods Manager Don Howard and Key Club members pitch in and lend their assistance with the Kiwanis Club for the Spirit of Christmas Food Drive. And it’s all done so those in need understand the true spirit of the season – it is better to give than to receive.
The Kiwanis Club truly takes this maxim to heart each December as it spends the early morning packing boxes and the noon hour delivering door-to-door spreading Christmas cheer for all to enjoy. It’s just another example of an Ennis organization putting others before themselves in order to make this community one of the friendliest on the planet.
