FM 985 accident claims man’s life, injured woman still hospitalized

Kevin Ross Barker, Jr., 21, of Alma was killed after being thrown from his 1999 Ford F150 truck Saturday night when Barker failed to slow down entering a curve along FM 985.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) reported at 8:02 p.m. that law enforcement and emergency personnel were dispatched to the area where they found Barker and passenger Brittany McGlothin, 17, of Ennis outside the vehicle. It was later determined the two were not wearing seatbelts, resulting in their being thrown from the vehicle as it rolled several times during the accident.
McGlothin was transported by helicopter to Parkland Hospital in Dallas where her current status is unknown at press time. Barker was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. DPS Trooper Tom Prudom was the reporting officer at the scene.
Barker, son of Kevin Barker Sr. and Lisa Shumate Barker, attended Ennis High. Raised in Ennis and Alma, he was employed as a welder for Metro, Inc. Barker’s siblings include brother Joseph Barker, and sisters Melisa Barker and Elizabeth Melton. His funeral takes place Sat., Feb. 2.
