Sharpshooters find success at Knights of Columbus competition

The Knights of Columbus local council 1353 hosted its Free Throw Championship this past Sunday in the St. John gym.
The event saw 18 competitors from age 10-14 take the court. Each shooter attempted 15-consecutive free throws and was scored on his or her success rate. In the boys’ 10-year-old division, Joshua Longfellow won gold and Hayden Mahone took the silver. In the girls’ 11-year-old division, Matty Hutyra won gold and Annie Cortes took the silver. In the boys’ 11-year-old division, JoeVonte won gold, Scott Muirhead took the silver and Jason Hunter was awarded the bronze. In the girls’ 12-year-old division, Shelby McDaniel won gold and Morgan McDaniel took the silver. In the boys’ 12-year-old division, Abel Arkusinski won gold and Isaiah Santos took silver. Finally, Ricky Otabi won gold in the boys’ 13-year-old division while Ryan Rasco was awarded silver. Winners can advance at district and state competitions. This year’s event was organized by Steve Betik.
