Golf tourney is a big hit in Ennis

It is quite exciting to have had a state level golf tournament held in our community at the Ennis Country Club, thanks in no small part to a local business for sponsoring the event.
The Allen Samuels Junior Golf Championship, held earlier this week was the place where junior golfers experienced competitive play, met pleasant members of the town and put away local delights from Kolache Depot and Bubba’s Bar-B-Q. The boys and girls teed off for a wonderful round of golf each day, despite fighting a frightening storm that rolled in on Tuesday. The golfers, their families and tournament staff all enjoyed filling meals highlighting the finer spots of Ennis after each round.
The event, a Texas Junior Golf Tournament, provided high-quality and competitive rounds of golf each day allowing juniors between the ages of 12-18 to display their talents and skills to college golf coaches. The event also gives the players a chance to build a competitive resumé that attracts opportunities for collegiate golf and academic scholarships.
Age divisions ranged from 12-13, 14-15 and 16-18 for both boys and girls. Congratulations to those who not only won their division, but also competed in the tournament. Ennis was happy to play host for the week to such a prestigious event. We also want to thank Allen Samuels Autoplex for sponsoring this tournament which is a real feather in Ennis’ cap.
The TJGT prepares junior golfers for national competitions while assisting and educating members on elite junior golf opportunities to enhance golf and academic scholarship opportunities. The TJGT defines national competitions as AJGA and USGA competitions and other independent elite invitationals included on the Golfweek rankings.
We hope everyone who participated in the Allen Samuels Junior Golf Championship had a pleasant experience and will look forward to future events here in Ennis. We know we’ll be.
