Ennis steps up again to help one in need

We’re happy to hear that the story the Ennis Daily News featured on Father’s Day (Cook, “Fight of her life,” June 15), telling of Ennisite Rachelle McKiernan’s struggle with a rare paralysis, has inspired so many readers to reach out and help her and her family with emotional as well as financial support.
We know that’s the kind of true-blue folks this community newspaper has as readers, but it’s nice to see their love in action yet again.
Ennis doesn’t know how to look the other way when it comes to helping somebody –– and that’s on an individual as well as corporate basis.
Just look what the International House of Pancakes (IHOP) is doing to help Rachelle, a former employee. The company’s Ennis branch and three other area locations are coming together to raise money for the stricken teenager and her parents.
“Our guests can purchase fundraiser tickets for $5 each,” IHOP Area Director Mike Escobedo told the EDN. “These tickets can be redeemed for a free shortstack of pancakes or $5 in food at IHOP until the end of the year. Guests can make donations to the family at our restaurant or they may donate money directly into an account at Gauranty Bank in Ennis in Rachelle’s name.”
We extend our sincerest thanks to IHOP for proving its big heart matches that of Ennis!
NOTE: Read an update about Rachelle McKiernan in tomorrow’s edition of the Ennis Daily News.
