EHS senior headed to Washington, D.C.

Ennis American Legion sponsors Bianca Gatlin
The American Legion Chism-Landers Post 361 of Ennis is proud to sponsor Bianca Gatlin, a senior at Ennis High School, to the National Young Leaders Conference (NYLC) in Washington, D.C. this August. To be eligible, NYLC participants must have grade point average of B- (87 percent or 3.5 on a 4.0 scale) or above and expect to graduate from high school in 2009, 2010, or 2011.
NYLC offers students the opportunity to discuss current events and issues with top policy makers in the capitol, analyze concepts and put them to work.
“The dynamic program features creative decision-making simulations that challenge young minds to solve problems and lead their peers through role-playing exercises in an energy-charged environment far from the traditional classroom experience,” according to a statement released by NYLC.
“Bianca was selected by her Physics teacher to attend this year’s National Young Leaders Conference,” said Dan Cook, Ennis’ American Legion commander. “While in D.C., she will meet with the leaders who affect the workings of the executive, legislative and judicial branches of the federal government, and develop her own leadership skills. She also has the chance to be awarded a college scholarship.”
Cook said the local American Legion family sends their congratulations to Gatlin for her accomplishments and best wishes for the opportunity that awaits her.
“We are proud to be her sponsor,” Cook said.
Along with Cook, officers of the American Legion Chism-Landers Post 361 include Auxiliary President Janice Winters and S.A.L. Commander Reggie Ruffin.
