Friends can make a world of difference

Candie Beck-Adams’ story on “Good Friends, Now and Forever” in today’s issue of the Ennis Daily News shows not only that dreams do come true but that all can make a difference.
The EDN congratulates the inspiration and perseverance of the two Ennis women who organized the Christian group geared toward fellowship and philanthropy.
Wilma Easley and Connie Lewis saw a need in the community and met it. Now, a year later, the group they formed has brought other women together across denominational and cultural lines as well as benefited the entire community through charitable contributions to local service agencies.
As Lewis told the EDN: “This whole thing started because of a conversation we had with each other about a plan God had laid on our hearts, and as it turned out, it was the same dream for us both,” Lewis said.
“It was something we had both wanted to do and see grow, and it has done that in the last year so I guess you can say our dreams have been realized.”
Both women are proud of the mark their members are making on Ennis.
“Being able to give back is something we try to promote because there are many worthwhile local efforts that need help,” Easley said. “Our biggest goal is to see the ladies in the group go on to give back to their community, either by volunteering or by donations, although it’s not something we make mandatory to be able to join the group.”
Easley and Lewis are an example to all of us that we can each make a difference, that good deeds are just a dream away from reality, and that everyone, regardless of race or creed, matters in the mix of beliefs and ideas that shape our community.
