Always obey local leash laws

Owning a pet, especially a dog or a cat, comes with certain responsibilities to both the pet and the public at large.
Local leash laws are in place for a reason and it’s important that dog owners in our area comply with those laws. No matter how well-behaved a dog might be, there are some situations where their reactions can’t be predicted and where their behavior may stray significantly from what their owners consider the norm. How many people have been bitten by a dog only to have the owner say “he’s never done that before.”
The dogs certainly can’t be faulted for this. While many pet owners see their dogs as just another member of the family, the fact remains that they are animals and can’t be expected to always behave in a rational and socially acceptable way. A dog outdoors without a leash is an accident waiting to happen. Whether they end up running into traffic or fighting with other neighborhood pets, bad things can and do happen.
Taking your dog for a walk is an important part of pet ownership. It gives them exercise and allows them to explore new sights, sounds and smells. But remember that leash laws are in place to protect pets, pet owners and the general public. When walking your dog in town, they should always be kept on a leash, so that you have more control over their behavior. You, your dog and your neighbors will be better off because of it.
