Fall Festival showcases Ennis

With the heat of summer still bearing down on us, we can’t very well say that fall is in the air, but it really is right around the corner.
One of our favorite rites of fall – in addition to cooler weather and Lion football – is the annual Autumn Days in Ennis Fall Festival hosted by the Ennis Downtown Merchants Association.
This event proves to be a very popular one each year and it also seems to continue to grow. This year the Fall Festival will take place downtown on Oct. 18 and will once again feature arts and crafts, delicious food, live music and plenty of fun and games for the whole family.
Attendees can look forward to a magic show, a petting zoo and pony rides among the attractions. We’re also anxious to sample the fish fry being sponsored by the Friends of the Ennis Railroad and Cultural Heritage Museum.
We hope to see lots of local merchants taking advantage of the opportunity to set up booths promoting all they have to offer. The downtown merchants and the folks at the Ennis Convention and Visitors Bureau put in many long hours planning and putting together this event. Those of us who get to enjoy the fruits of their labor should make it a point to thank them for their effort and make sure we support these local businesses.
It’s also important that local business and other groups support the Fall Festival as sponsors. Letters outlining sponsorship opportunities will be going out soon.
Living in a small town has some pretty big benefits. Events such as the Autumn Days festival rank right up there among the things that like best about living and working here in Ennis. It’s important that we don’t take it for granted and acknowledge all of the hard work it takes to make it happen.
