Two tales of people, memories reuniting

In the past week there have been two stories in the pages of the Ennis Daily News about finding lost memories in the most unlikely places.
First Helping Hands of Ennis discovered a box of photographs and mementos in a storeroom. The box was sitting ignored for several years and would have been continuously overlooked had the storage area not been cleaned out. The box contained a photo album, framed photos, certificates of achievement.
We were happy to find out the owner of the missing memorabilia wanted the photographs back as they had been accidentally donated nearly a decade ago. The owner didn’t realize until recently the box of photographs and other keepsakes were missing after he got around to looking for the box in his attic.
Another tale of woe regarding a discarded souvenir with a happy ending was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Ennis locating a plaque from 1965 honoring a founding member of the club.
Dr. A. L. Thomas’ award was stumbled upon at the Preston Street Garage Sale this summer. It is theorized the plaque was sold in an estate sale following Thomas’ death.
The group who originally issued the award is now in custody of it again and will display it proudly to commemorate one of its own.
It is a wonderful thing to know the ones who will cherish these mementos the most have received ownership of the items once again. It is always nice to hear about a piece of history, whether for a service organization or among a family, being restored, recovered or preserved.
