Put the ‘thanks’ in this time of year

Every year when classes wind down toward the Thanksgiving holiday, students – especially the little tots – are taught about the importance of giving thanks for what they have and sharing with those not as fortunate. But how many adults are reminded of the reason for the season when it comes to Turkey Day?
We can get so caught up in the motions during this time of year it is easy to forget why we are fighting our way through grocery stores the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, roasting the turkey and baking enough pies to feed a Third World country’s army and making small talk with that aunt who only comes around once a year.
Whether you spend today sitting around the dinner table packing away turkey, stuffing and those other delicious treats that go along with this holiday, enjoying the football games bombarding television airways, waking early for the inevitable sales that will begin at local malls and retail stores or partaking in some other Thanksgiving tradition your family has upheld for years, remember to give thanks for what you are most grateful for.
The easy answers to this are friends and family, but with the economy the way it is right now, also consider being appreciative of things like having a job and being able to purchase presents to put under that Christmas tree you’ll probably be putting up this coming weekend.
We at the Ennis Daily News wish everyone a happy holiday and hope your season is blessed with thanksgiving and joy.
