Ennis Ford Perfect Drive

Doing a little can go a long way

We have recently learned that the joint program between Helping Hands of Ennis and the students of Ennis ISD that provides toys to kids who might not otherwise receive Christmas gifts is not going to happen this year.
What’s more, the Ellis County Salvation Army has no "Angel Trees" located in Ennis this year. The Angel Tree program also gives gifts to needy Ellis County children, but since there isn’t a presence in Ennis this holiday season, even more kids will be doing without.
This is one of those options that most people just can’t fathom and for a community that is as close knit as this one, I know others will find this thought as disturbing as we do. To try to offset the lack of a Christmas toy program this year, the Ennis Daily News is accepting toy donations for children up to the age of 13. The toy drive will run until Dec. 15 at which time, everything collected will be distributed to local churches.
We have faith in this program because we’ve seen time and time again the generosity and kindness from the people in this community and we know especially during the holiday season everyone will consider their own blessings and try to share a little of that with families who are having a hard time this year.
In a world where kids already grow up too fast, we think it’s important for them to believe in a world of possibilities. We also realize that this year of economic uncertainty has taken its toll on all of us and we are not asking anyone to do it all. We believe if we all do a little, the result will mean joy for many.
Hopefully you have all kept the wonder of the holiday season with us even though we are grown, and if so we know there will not be a child in Ennis without a toy under the tree this year.
