Support your local troop

Following hearty Christmas dinners once the New Year rings in it seems half of the staff here at the Ennis Daily News makes resolutions to lose weight while the other group makes similar resolutions to eat healthier or generally be healthier.
Then all of those resolutions go by the wayside once we hear about Girl Scout cookies going on sale.
Whatever craving your taste buds happen to be in the mood for, the Girl Scouts have a cookie to tame it. Every year when the cookie purchase sheet starts to circulate around the office, our mouths begin salivating and questions start being asked about what our favorite cookies are and how many boxes can we buy before we need to start lying about buying for family members and friends.
The announcement that cookies will go on sale on Jan. 9 got us all giddy about the magnificent treats the Girl Scouts sell to us without even having to guilt us with the sweet faces and puppy dog eyes some sales children have to use on other products sold in fund raisers. We’re happy to help the cause.
But what is great about the Girl Scout cookies – besides the chewy goodness of your favorite cookie treat – is that it is all for a great cause. Not only does it raise money for the Girl Scouts in order to keep the group going, it also teaches the adolescent participants about leadership, setting goals, public speaking, money and time management, financial literacy and other important characteristics.
We are glad to hear that the sale of Girl Scout cookies is close at hand. We hope you support your local troop this coming year and buy an extra box of your favorite cookie because its going to be an entire year before they’re available again.
