We’re here to help

Being a small town community paper, the Ennis Daily News gets the privilege to focus on some of the aspects of journalism that aren’t really taught or learned when concerning large metropolises like New York City, Chicago or even Dallas.
Take for example today’s story about a group of photographs that showed up at our office with no owner. The pictures were purchased at an auction and the new possessor felt it necessary to try and find the rightful owner of the photographs. By publishing the pictures in our newspaper, hopefully we can hear from the public some good news that will lead to the return of the items to the family who has lost them.
First of all, we wish to commend the auction purchaser for taking the possible steps to find the owners. A less caring – or less motivated – owner would have simply trashed the photographs thinking it was a lost cause. But because a small town newspaper can spare the space in its pages to help solve the mystery, it is very likely the owners will be located.
In recent months we have done this exact thing with some items that were located at Helping Hands of Ennis. A box of photographs were dropped off at the organization, the owner not realizing what had been done. When Helping Hands did some spring-cleaning, they found the photos and used the Ennis Daily News to find the owner. It was a story with a happy ending, which lets us know that there is a good chance the same thing will happen with these lost pictures.
If you recognize the photographs that go along with the front page article and can help in any way, please contact Candie Beck-Adams at 875-3801.
