Do your part, get involved

In the past few weeks we have featured photos of people who are getting involved in the Relay for Life by helping with various activities in preparation for the event.
Groups of all ages are pitching in to get ready for this huge community-wide fund-raiser. There is a lot of hard work that goes into making this event such a success and it is a testament to the Relay for Life that the willingness to volunteer and be part of the work to fight cancer touches lives communitywide.
The fact that so many different age groups and ethnicities are involved in the event shows the importance of not only having the Relay, but also supporting it through volunteer work in additioin to donations. The fight to cure cancer is not limited to people with cancer and their loved ones; it is something we all can get involved in because the reality is that most of us at some point in our lives will have a loved one touched by the disease.
We urge the community to make plans to either attend the relay event on April 24 by organizing a team to participate in the actual walk or by donating to the cause and helping to raise money so more cancer research can be funded. Even without taking part in those two activities there are many more ways to be involved and we hope that members of the community will spare some time to learn which areas they can make a difference in.
For more information on organizing a team or how to become involved, contact Ennis Relay for Life chairperson Amy Martinez at 972-875-8710 or by visiting the Ennis relay Web site at www.relayforlife.org/ennistx.
