Treasure hunting for a cause

The story of the Ennis Relay for Life garage sale on today’s front page is an outstanding example of the new ideas and events the Relay committee puts effort into each year to help meet the financial goals of the American Cancer Society.
Not only are the committee members involved in the project, but because of the type of event, it allows a community-wide opportunity for everyone to come out and support the organization.
The Relay committee members and team members have been working very hard over the past year to get ready for this year’s event and with the approaching date of April 24 just around the corner, both committee members and teams are gearing up for the home stretch of fundraising.
The group has a goal of $165,000 this year, which seems like an incredible amount but not to these folks whose efforts are tireless. The garage sale, which will take place on March 29 at the KC Hall is one of many events the community can be involved in leading up to the Relay. We encourage everyone to support the garage sale and Relay in any way you can. You don’t have to have a team or participate in the Relay to make a difference. Your donations mean as much to the group and ultimately to cancer research funding as participation in the Relay does.
The American Cancer Society slogan “everyone deserves a lifetime” is something everyone who becomes involved in the Relay for Life takes to heart and believes, which is why events like the community-wide garage sale are so important.
We believe that funding cancer research is the way to finally end this devastating disease and we hope the community will show their support for the garage sale and come out from noon to 4 p.m. on March 29 to help raise funds. One person alone can’t do everything but if we all do what we can progress can be made.
