Local teacher set to run Boston Marathon

Vargas looks to build on impressive resume
Patricia Vargas has been a talented runner most of her life, but she will be put to the ultimate test on Monday.
The native of Beaver Falls, Pa., will be one of 25,000 runners competing in the 113th Boston Marathon. It will be her first time to take part in the race, which is undoubtedly one of the most competitive in the world.
“I qualified several times – including as recent as seven years ago – and was never able to compete,” she said.
“This year, my personal life allowed me the chance to make the trip and I’m not injured, so it’s the right time. I’m excited to compete and do well.”
Vargas actually qualified for the ’09 Boston Marathon at the Kentucky Derby Marathon last April, finishing sixth among women in a time of 3:07. The Boston Marathon qualifying time for women her age is 3:45.
