Palmer church shreds waves

Members of the youth group at First Baptist Church in Palmer are getting ready to hang ten on Saturday night as they prepare for their annual community auction and family fun night, aptly titled "Surf’s Up."
This is the second year the group has used the nautical theme but volunteer Heather Beck said it is the first year they have taken the theme to such an extreme degree.
"We tried this last year but the youth group didn’t have as big of a role in it as they do this year," she said. "They have really put some thought into things and have come up with the Rip Curl Cafe where snacks and treats can be purchased and the Beachcomber’s Craft Table which should be fun for everyone. They have worked very hard on the event and we hope the community comes out to support it."
The evening will also feature live music from performers from the church as well as the community, midway games, tug of war, volleyball and many more options for those planning to attend.
The event will be held on the square in downtown Palmer from 6 – 9 p.m. and an auction for various items will also be held for those wanting to bid on a host of items.
