Golden Circle aims for green

Despite a change in venue, the Ennis Golden Circle’s annual golf tournament will still be held to help raise money to support the many programs the organization hosts.
The tourney is the only organized fund-raising effort for the center, located at 1700 N. Floyd St., and has long been a source of pride and entertainment for members and staff.
Golden Circle Director Mary Nell Glaspy, a friend of famed golfer Chi Chi Rodriquez, helped launch the benefit in the 1990s, and since then has added to the excitement of the occasion by calling on various other noted pals, from Dallas Cowboys stars to various regional media personalities, to participate. However, Glaspy’s own love of golf is what got things started.
“We just have the best time,” Glaspy said. “I was the only one among the staff and board of directors who had gone golfing in the past so it was up to me to fill everyone in before we started. I managed the basics and everyone got a quick lesson in mulligans,” she said with a laugh.
Due to the closure of the Ennis Country Club, the tournament has had to be relocated to the King’s Creek Country Club in Kemp, Texas, but Glaspy said she is not worried about the new venue deterring people from participating.
